Camera sites

The County Council’s documentation shows [see page 7 of the Scheme Report] that there would be 37 fixed camera points plus 5 mobile camera points.

The claim, made on Radio 209, by a City Councillor for Coleridge ward that “The scheme that is proposed puts cameras on the end of every street” is totally false.

“Figure 3.1 shows the extent of the proposed charging zone, which is approximately 6km by 6km. It is necessary to detect travellers entering the charged area from outside as well as those moving around inside it. Detection points would need to catch ‘rat-runners’ as well as normal traffic. However, it should be noted that the road network in Cambridge is already quite constrained and a relatively small number of detection points will intercept the great majority of traffic movements.”
